Since January, 1st,  2011, the warranty on all VETUS equipment is 3 years and the warranty on engines and generators is even 5 years. Besides these outstanding warranty conditions, VETUS also provides a worldwide service network so that our customers can always count on excellent support.

Warranty Conditions for VETUS Equipment

Article 1

This warranty is provided by VETUS BV or its affiliates.

Article 2

2.1. The warranty is only applicable to products produced and/or supplied by VETUS.
2.2. The warranty is only applicable to products supplied by VETUS or its affiliates.

Article 3

3.1. The warranty is granted to the first owner. The warranty can be transferred to a new owner and the remainder of the warranty period will be integrally transferred to the latter. All modifications made to the installation or the products will render the warranty conditions null and void.

Article 4

4.1. The warranty period will commence at the time the VETUS product is delivered to the end user.
4.2. The warranty period is 36 months. This warranty period is only applicable to a retail end user, not a company or a professional user and strictly for recreational use.
4.3. The warranty period is 12 months for professional use. Prior to using the product for professional purposes, the user should obtain written approval from VETUS and/or its authorized dealers.

Article 5

5.1. VETUS guarantees that VETUS Equipment is warranted against product, material and manufacturing faults during the warranty period.
5.2. Faults occurring during the warranty period will be repaired by VETUS at no cost to the owner
5.3. VETUS reserves the right to substitute a new or replacement product in the event that repair of the faulty product is not possible.
5.4. Products replaced by VETUS under warranty will automatically become the property of VETUS.

Article 6

6.1. The final decision about warranty applicability is made by VETUS and not its authorized dealers. The decision will be forwarded to the supplying dealer/boatyard in writing. VETUS will not enter into correspondence or dialogue with the end user.

Article 7

7.1. The end user cannot claim under warranty directly with VETUS, but should make a claim under warranty with the supplier of the VETUS product.

Article 8

All claims for warranty will be rendered null and void in the following situations:

  • That any periodical maintenance required has not been performed by a authorized VETUS dealer
  • Faulty installation or assembly of the product
  • Improper use of the product
  • The failure is caused by lack of care by the owner or user
  • In the case of external calamity
  • In the case of neglect of the instructions concerning use.
  • The warranty period of 36 months has expired
Article 9

Exclusions: situations not covered under this warranty:

  • Wear and tear parts
  • Consequential costs such as (but not limited to) – transport costs, labour costs, cranage, lifting costs etc.
  • Damage as a result of environmental influences
  • Pollution, freezing, overheating and overload

Warranty Conditions for VETUS Engines

Article 1

1.1. This warranty is provided by VETUS B.V. or its affiliates.

Article 2

2.1. The warranty is only applicable to products produced and/or supplied by VETUS.
2.2. The warranty is only applicable to products supplied by VETUS or its affiliates.

Article 3

3.1. In order to qualify for warranty on engines, a fully completed and signed Service Manual must be presented. In order to claim warranty on spare parts or accessories, a copy of the invoice for the relevant spare part or accessory will be required as proof of validity of the warranty.

Article 4

4.1. The warranty is granted to the first owner. The warranty can be transferred to a new owner and the remainder of the warranty period will be integrally transferred to the latter. Any modifications made to the installation or the products will render the warranty conditions null and void.

Article 5

5.1. VETUS guarantees the quality of the supplied product and all accessories supplied with the product. Defects will be repaired by VETUS or its affiliates, either by replacement or repair of the defective part. The repair in question will be performed at a location chosen by VETUS.

Article 6

6.1. The warranty period will commence from the day of delivery to the first owner / end user. The engine or generator should be put into service no later than 6 (six) months after delivery.

Article 7

7.1. VETUS marine diesel engines for non-commercial use in pleasure craft are guaranteed against all material and/or construction defects according to applicable law, for a period of 36 (thirty six) months, or for a maximum of 1000 (one thousand) working hours, depending on whichever comes first.
7.2. In addition to this warranty period, VETUS guarantees during the subsequent 24 (twenty four) months, or an additional 1500 (fifteen hundred) operating hours, depending on whichever comes first , the following engine parts: the cylinder block casting, the cylinder head casting, the crankshaft, the camshaft, the flywheel housing casting, the timing gear casting, the timing gears and the connecting rods.
7.3. The warranty does not apply to light professional use of the engine, unless in special circumstances, VETUS has given approval for such usage.
7.4. If such written approval is given by VETUS for light commercial use of the product, the warranty period will be 12 (twelve) months or a maximum of 1000 (one thousand) working hours, depending on whichever comes first.

Article 8

8.1. The international warranty period for generator sets is:

  • 36 (thirty six ) months or maximum 2000 (two thousand) operating hours depending on whichever comes first (generator operating speed of 1500 rpm).
  • 36 (thirty six ) months or maximum 1500 (fifteen hundred) operating hours depending on whichever comes first (generator operating speed of 3000 rpm).

8.2. In addition to this warranty period, VETUS guarantees during the subsequent 24 (twenty four) months, or an additional 1000 (one thousand) operating hours, depending on whichever comes first , the following engine parts: the cylinder block casting, the cylinder head casting, the crankshaft, the camshaft, the flywheel housing casting, the timing gear casting, the timing gears and the connecting rods

Article 9

9.1. The international warranty period for engine parts and accessories is 12 (twelve) months from date of invoice. Parts required for periodical maintenance and parts subject to wear and tear are not included.

Article 10

10.1. Visible defects must be reported in writing immediately, or within five days at the latest to the VETUS dealer, distributor or importer.

10.2. All claims on the Warranty will be rendered null and void when:

  • The product or component has been used for an application other than stated in the specification.
  • The product or part has been improperly fitted or installed.
  • The failure is due to normal and expected wear and tear.
  • The conditions concerning operation, maintenance and repair have not been followed.
  • Periodic maintenance has not been carried out according to the service schedule laid down in the owners handbook, or to the required standards, or using parts that do not meet the original equipment specifications.
  • The construction or adjustment of the product has been changed without the approval of VETUS.
  • The product has been used for a different purpose to its intended use.
  • Non-original parts have been fitted.
  • The defect has not been reported in writing to the dealer, O.E.M (Original Equipment Manufacturer), importer or VETUS within 14 days of the defect being noticed.

10.3. The Warranty does not cover:

  • Faults which are not caused by material or construction defects.
  • Faults caused by: normal wear and tear, internal or external dirt, rust and paint damage, freezing, overheating, overloading or improper use.
  • Damage caused during transport, distribution or storage.
  • Repairs carried out by a non-authorized service point.
  • Materials or procedures used at the request of the owner but which are not normally supplied.
    Inspections, or similar professional advice carried out without prior written approval from VETUS.
  • Parts liable to wear and tear, such as filters, gaskets, injectors, lubricants, thermostats, paint, hoses, brushes, glow plugs, V-belts and impellers for example.
  • Consequential costs of profit-sharing, transport, travel or accommodation, loss of time, loss of property, loss of use or costs incurred in making the product accessible, crane costs, dock or lifting costs, damages due to personal injury or loss of possessions.
Article 11

11.1. A claim on the warranty can only be made if the installation forms have been fully completed by the dealer or installer and returned to the Service Department of VETUS NV within 14 days from commissioning of the product.
