The advanced, high performance VETUS BOW PRO thrusters have been transforming the onboard experience for boaters for years, eliminating the stress of docking in tight spaces. Offering sideways control to precisely position your boat, bow and stern thrusters give the captain responsive vessel control, minimizing the prospect of damage or injury due to handling errors or mishaps. As the experts in thrusters, VETUS fulfils demand for carefree maneuvering with its unique solution – a range of proportional thrusters offering intuitive, precision control and unlimited runtime.
Many boaters are already experiencing the benefits of the VETUS BOW PRO thrusters, but the latest developments ensure there are more possibilities for people to enjoy an easier, more confident, time at the helm when out on the water.
VETUS is answering the needs of more boaters by strengthening its thruster range and also by working with partners to offer integrated maneuvering systems to deliver the key features and benefits which are important to customers.
With the widest range of thrusters on the market, VETUS can tailor its thruster options, ensuring convenient compatibility and versatility, whether the installation is for a new build or an upgrade to an existing boat.
Beginning with the BOWA series, with thrust outputs from 30kgf to 76kgf, VETUS offers the best solution for compact vessels up to 45ft needing smaller thrusters.
The evolution of this series is the BOW PRO Boosted series (BOWB), which includes the most powerful BOW PRO thrusters yet – the BOWB 300 and 400 series. Extending VETUS’s range of applications to encompass installation on boats from 26ft to 130ft, the BOWB thrusters introduce the ground-breaking feature of an exclusive built-in DC-to-DC smart charger function.
VETUS also prioritizes integration between onboard systems, an essential factor in reaching the next level of boater convenience. Using VETUS proprietary CAN-bus system called V-CAN, the VETUS thrusters can be connected to other, even non-VETUS, devices that are also part of the CAN-bus (or NMEA2000®) line of your boat. This feature provides the possibility to integrate the VETUS thruster, for example, with most Joystick Docking Systems and/or Multi-Functional Displays on board.
VETUS facilitates the use of its technology by more boaters with collaborations with leadings partners to deliver system integration with outboard engines. Available for single engine configurations, as well as twin and triple, the outboard integration offers significant benefits when maneuvering or docking by combining VETUS thrusters with joystick piloting solutions.
Key partnerships include Mercury Marine®, for its Mercury Joystick Piloting for Outboards (JPO), and Yamaha, connecting the BOW PRO thruster range to the Helm Master® EX control system. Joystick docking control system integration also includes Glendinning Joystick Piloting, ZF JMS, and Dockmate Wireless Control System. VETUS also connects its thrusters to YANMAR’s joystick control system for shaft drive inboard powerboat applications.
Whether you are docking in a tight marina, navigating busy channels or trying to angle your boat into a specific spot, having precise control of your vessel is crucial.
Benefits of the BOW PRO thrusters include precision proportional control and confidence for skippers and crew that they can extensively use their thruster system when docking or maneuvering without the fear of overuse or overheating issues.
As mentioned earlier, all the latest BOWB units feature an embedded smart three-stage charging sequence which maintains the thruster batteries at their peak efficiency. This solution enables connection to a 24V power supply to recharge the 48V battery bank. The internal charger in the smaller VETUS units empowers 24V thruster battery banks to be replenished from a 12V source.
The proprietary VETUS motor controller also regulates the maintenance-free brushless induction motors, ensuring the thrusters are very efficient and quiet. Active heat control and a low power consumption give the BOWB thrusters a runtime only limited by the size of the battery pack installed – a unique feature for DC thrusters.
Installation and maintenance of thrusters are safe, fast and easy, with the units integrating seamlessly with the proprietary VETUS V-CAN system for plug and play convenience.
All VETUS BOW PRO thrusters, which can also be installed as a stern thruster, are designed to be installed on a new build or as a refit for an existing thruster.
Bow thrusters work by rotating a propeller in a submerged tunnel or a housing mounted athwartships, located near the bow and/or the stern. A control panel allows you to push the bow and/or stern sideways, to resist the force of a crosswind and cross-current, while you are maneuvering in close quarters.
Using VETUS bow thrusters can:
The VETUS BOW PRO thruster systems are another example of how a VETUS solution can enhance onboard freedom and comfort, answering demand for new technology to easy the docking procedure and for onboard system integration.
