After four years at YANMAR Marine International, he made the move to VETUS, where he has now been working for several years as Marketing Director, full of energy and drive. No two days are the same, and standing still is not an option. In this employee story, Sander shares his transition, his first impressions of VETUS, and what he enjoys most about his work, as well as what makes him proud.
“I really enjoyed my time at YANMAR Marine International. Over four years, I had the opportunity to build and professionalize the marketing department. At VETUS, there was also a clear ambition to take the brand to the next level. In addition, there was a need for marketing support for the other two companies within the business unit: Smartgyro and Flexofold. This combination made it very interesting for me to move into a more strategic role within the business unit.”
“The first period was quite intense, but very educational. VETUS has a very extensive portfolio and a strong engineering driven mindset. My role was to give more focus to the VETUS brand and to structure the team. I am naturally entrepreneurial, which helped me dive into a variety of projects. I received strong support from the organization, and the positive team spirit made the work even more enjoyable.”
“My workweek is very varied; no two days are the same. One day I focus on branding activities, while on other days I work on online marketing or product launches. I also regularly work on creating synergy within our business unit, for example by developing a joint trade show stand for the brands YANMAR, VETUS, Maxwell, Smartgyro, and Flexofold.
My main responsibility is leading the marketing team and ensuring they can carry out their work as efficiently and effectively as possible. What I enjoy most is contributing to strategic thinking around brand positioning and connecting people and brands within the organization.”
“When I look ahead, I want to focus VETUS marketing on strengthening our international positioning. In the Netherlands, VETUS already has strong brand recognition, but in many other countries there is still a clear opportunity for growth. My ambition is to position VETUS globally as an innovative and reliable company within the marine industry, with a strong focus on our product innovations.
We have a large and highly skilled team of engineers who work every day on new solutions. That innovative strength deserves to be more visible in our communication. In addition, VETUS is represented in 18 countries with our own people, which gives us a truly international character. Our brand should clearly reflect that VETUS stands for technical expertise, innovation, and a strong local presence worldwide.”
“There are several moments and projects I am proud of. First of all, I am very proud of my team. It is great to see how the team now operates like a well oiled engine. Each team member has their own expertise, and it is precisely this combination that makes them stronger together, which is clearly reflected in the quality and output of our work and projects.
I am also proud of the new brand definition and the accompanying look and feel we have developed. VETUS now has a strong and consistent brand identity that truly reflects who we are as a company. Our online presence has also improved significantly. We are currently investing heavily in content marketing, social media, and campaigns. The results are clearly measurable and show a strong and significant step forward.”
“My advice to professionals who are considering their next step is to take initiative and stay open to opportunities that suit you.
