The story of VETUS begins in 1964. Founder Willem den Ouden started from his home in Rotterdam, selling marine components. It soon became clear that there was a need in the market for reliable and smart solutions for boats. In 1965, the first VETUS catalogue was published, and not long after, the first engineer was hired to develop in house products. The first product designed under the VETUS name was a seawater filter.
Growth followed quickly. In 1966, VETUS opened its first international office in Germany, followed by an office in the United States in 1973. By continuing to listen to boat builders and watersports enthusiasts, the company developed more and more of its own onboard products and systems.
A major milestone followed in 1982 with the introduction of one of the first bow thrusters for the recreational boating market. This marked VETUS’s growth as an innovator in boat systems, and the company expanded its portfolio with engines, exhaust systems, steering, and electrical solutions.
