For Henk Steevens and Els Hoekstra, a retired couple from Amsterdam, life on the water has become a meaningful and deeply personal way to spend their time. Their e-weekender (a cabin-style houseboat), moored in Vinkeveen, is more than just a vessel, it\u2019s a floating home that offers them peace, connection to nature, and the freedom to explore at their own pace. From diesel to electric: discovering a better way to cruise<\/strong><\/p>\n

For Henk and Els, the decision to embrace electric boating started with a simple test ride. During a VETUS open day, they stepped aboard a boat powered by the VETUS E-POD electric propulsion system, and within minutes, they were convinced.<\/p>\n

The construction of their houseboat was carried out by Euroship Services in Heerewaarden, a trusted boatbuilder and installer with years of experience in sustainable marine solutions. Euroship handled the full installation of the VETUS E-POD system, along with additional key components such as VETUS bow and stern thrusters, which have proven invaluable for docking and maneuvering in tight spaces. The bow and stern thrusters are BOW PRO models operating on 48 volts, sharing the same battery bank as the E-POD system\u2014making it a fully integrated 48-volt solution. In addition to the propulsion system, Henk and Els have equipped their boat with six solar panels on the roof. \u201cIt\u2019s not about speed,\u201d Henk adds. \u201cIt\u2019s about travelling comfortably and responsibly at our own pace, with minimal impact on the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
